The killer is not the sea, but the racist policies

of the Meloni government and of the european governments

The government, via Interior Minister Piantedosi, pointed to the immigrants themselves as responsible for the massacre that took place in the waters of Cutro, declaring: "desperation can never justify travel conditions that endanger the lives of their children." This is a big and poisonous lie!

First because, as one of the rescue doctors, Orlando Amodeo, explained very clearly from day one, "There are tragedies that can be avoided, and this one could have been avoided and was not."

Second, because the desperation that drives immigrants, despite many difficulties, to attempt to reach Italian shores by sea in the sacrosanct expectation of improving their own and their family members' living conditions is generated by centuries of exploitation, robbery and wars conducted in these countries by the "highly civilized" West, Italy above all. But the minister and the Meloni government obviously "forget" this!

The truth is that the responsibility for these massacres lies with the racist policies of Italian and European governments and their institutions. The truth is that these massacres are not prevented because they serve to keep immigrants in a state of perpetual terror; they serve to remind them that even the worst living and working conditions to which they are and will be forced to submit in Italy represent in comparison a "paradise" for those who have seen death with their own eyes. The truth is that tragedies such as these serve to remind immigrants that they have to keep their heads bowed and have to suffer all sorts of abuse so that they can then be used by the bosses, despite themselves, as a weapon of blackmail against Italian workers, aimed at worsening their working conditions as well.

To prevent the recurrence of such tragedies and to defend against the racist and antiproletarian policies as a whole, there is only one path: that of the struggle and joint organization of immigrant and Italian workers to gain full and equal political, organizational and social rights.

·       Against the Bossi-Fini law

·       Unconditional residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) for all immigrant workers

·       Right of citizenship for the children of immigrant workers

·       For the unity between Italian and immigrant workers. Rights are either defended together or lost together

·       Against the war and robbery policies of the Western powers and NATO in Ukraine, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
